JOB PROFILE:

The Manager of Intellectual Property is a leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, daily operational management, and growth of the firm’s IP practice across three jurisdictions: The Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. This individual ensures the seamless execution of all patent and trademark filings, high-level client advisory, and the continuous development of the IP unit’s staff and systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Regional Portfolio Oversight:
- Directly manage and supervise the Intellectual Property portfolios for The Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.
- Ensure all timely IP filings, maintenance, and executable instructions are processed accurately and within statutory deadlines across all branches.
Strategic Client Advisory:
- Act as the primary advisor to domestic and international clients on applicable laws and treaties, including OAPI and ARIPO regulations.
- Liaise with and report to global instructing colleagues and law firm partners to maintain high service standards.
Operational Leadership:
- Supervise, support, and mentor all IP Unit staff, (Assistant Manager, Officers & Clerk) as well as maintain relationships with Registry officers.
- Monitor and authorize all payments made to the respective Registries to ensure financial compliance.
- Review and approve weekly reports of all IP Registry activities and client communications.
Business Development:
- Lead brand management and business development for the IP Unit.
- Represent the firm at overseas meetings, workshops, and international IP conferences to expand the firm’s global footprint.
Systems & Compliance:
- Oversee the administration, maintenance, and optimization of the firm’s IP management software.
- Ensure strict adherence to firm policies and maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and professional discretion.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Background : Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Intellectual Property, Business, Management, or related fields.
Professional Standing : Should have the necessary credentials for professional registration and the pursuit of advanced certifications or degrees relevant to IP law and management.
Minimum Experience : A minimum of 5 years of working experience in a professional environment is required.

Regional Leadership : Ability to provide strategic direction and oversight for multiple branches.
Client Advisory : Skills in providing high-level advice to both domestic and international clients.
Systems Management : Proficiency in overseeing, maintaining, and optimizing specialized IP management software.
Advanced Software Proficiency : Expert level use of Google Workspace Microsoft 365 or similar..
Financial & Operational Oversight : Ability to monitor and authorize payments to Registries, ensuring compliance with accurate recording & documentation.
Business Development : Skills in brand management, networking and the ability to represent the firm at international meetings and conferences.

Soft Skills & Competencies

Communication : Excellent verbal and effective writing skills, with a focus on precision in proofreading, grammar, and punctuation.
Discretion : Demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential information with professional discretion.
Personnel Management : Proven ability to mentor, supervise, and support a multi-tiered team including Assistant Managers, Officers, and Clerks.
